These days, in the region of Solsonès, GRAF Firefighters have conducted prescribed burning in 10 hectares of forest in order to reduce forest fires risk and preserve pine forests.
At the same time, it has been quantified undergrowth and biomass fuel present in the forest before and after the prescribed burning, by installing permanent plots which will be followed the coming years.
The objective is to evaluate the efficiency of burning as a tool for forest fires prevention, explains Miriam Pique, of CTFC.
