Initiation of inventories in young and dense forests of low vitality and low structural diversity
During May inventories were initiated in young and dense low vitality forests corresponding to the C2 action of the project Life+ Pinassa. The first inventories have been made in stands included in the LIC Ribera Salada, in the coming weeks will continue to work on LIC Obagues de la Riera de Madrona, both areas located in Solsonès.
In this kind of masses, the project aims to improve it by improving habitat heterogeneity and structural composition of vegetation, biodiversity and ecological complexity of the forest; the conditioning of forest growth will drive it to structural stages of maturity in the medium and long term, achieving greater stability of the whole tree layer and increased resistance to drought; and reducing the risk of wildfire through increasing the strength and resilience of the forest tackle climate change.
The inventory will allow us to know the conditions specific to each stand in order to define specific actions for regulating intraspecific competition of trees (low thinning, selective or combined) and the elements of biodiversity to must be fostered in each stand.
