From July 25 to 30, a delegation from the Life Pinassa of Catalonia traveled to Corsica to interchange their experience in sustainable management and conservation of Catalan Black pine forests (Pinus nigra<\/em> subps., Salzmannii<\/em> var. Pyrenaica<\/em>) with members of the Life “Pour une management conservatoire des habitats \u00e0 pin laricio<\/em>” LIFE00NAT\/F\/7273, developed in Corsica in forests of Pinus nigra<\/em> subsp. laricio<\/em> var. Corsicana<\/em>. The Catalan delegation consisted of members of the CPF, CTFC and firefighters of the GRAF of the Department d\u2019Interior<\/em> of the Generalitat de Catalunya<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The visit was conducted by Sandra Guy from the Ofice National des For\u00eats<\/em> (ONF) \u00a0and Coordinator of the project. The team addressed aspects about sustainable management of Corsican forests and, in particular, how to account productive management with the conservation of the endemic species Corsican nuthatch (Sitta whiteheadi<\/em>) and forest bats, dependent on large pine and standing wood dead.<\/p>\n

Another important issue discussed were the prevention and extinction of forest fires in the context of the island and in comparison with the situation in Catalan forests and the whole of the Mediterranean region.<\/p>\n
